Friedrich Eduard Eichens
1804 – Berlin – 1877

German draughtsman, copper engraver and etcher

From 1819-1825 Eichens was a pupil of Ludwig Buchhorn (1770-1856). From autumn 1827 he studied drawing under Francois Forster (1790-1872) and Joseph Théodore Richhomme (1785-1849) in Paris for one year.

From Paris he travelled to Italy, where he studied under Paolo Toschi (1788-1854) in Parma. In Venice and Milan he made drawings after old master paintings. Winter 1831/32 he stayed in Rome, then in Naples for a month. In 1832 he came back to Berlin, where he became member of the academy of arts in 1841. In Berlin he worked as a draughtsman, copper engraver and etcher.
