German painter and draughtsman

Wilhelm von Kobell first studied at the academy of arts in Mannheim. In 1792 he was appointed painter at court by Charles Theodore. In 1793 he moved to Munich. In 1814 he was appointed professor for landscape painting at the academy of arts in Munich. 1809 he visited Vienna and 1810 Paris. In 1817 he was ennobled and in 1833 he received the inheritable title of nobility.
