Dutch painter, draughtsman and etcher

Rembrandt studied under Pieter Lastman (1583-1633) in Amsterdam. In 1625 he opened his first studio in Leiden. In 1631 he moved with his studio to Amsterdam.

Rembrandt was one of the best and most famous Dutch artists of the baroque period and he was a celebrated artist even during his lifetime. But nevertheless he often had great financial problems, in 1656 he went bankrupt and he died in poverty 1669.
