Tobias Verhaecht
1561 – Antwerp – 1631

Verhaecht was member of a well known family of artists in Antwerp. Before 1590 he might be travelled to Italy and Florence. In 1590 he became master, later on also dean of the Guild of Saint Luke.

He run a great studio, where also Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was trained  in 1591. In 1594 he worked, together with Marten de Vos (1532-1603) and other artists, on the decorations for the entry of Archduke Ernest of Austria.

His numerous drawings, often wrongly considered as works of art by Josse de Momper (1564-1635) and Lodewijk Toeput (ca. 1550 - ca. 1604), already include landscape drawings created as stand-alone landscape scenes only.
