Jan Weenix (Weeninx), called “Weenix the Younger”
1640 – Amsterdam – 1719

Dutch painter and draughtsman

Jan Weenix first was trained by his father „Weenix the Elder“ (1621-1663). From 1701-1712 he worked at Bensberg Palace, just outside Cologne, as an artist at the court of the Electoral Palatinate in Düsseldorf. But most time he lived and worked in Amsterdam.

Beside his cousin M. de Hondecoeter (1636-1695) he is regarded as one of the most prolific painters of still lifes at his time.
