Dutch painter and draughtsman

Before 1640 Wyck travelled to Italy. From that time on an 'Italian style' predominates his landscape paintings with architectural motifs.

Italian houses, courtyards, Roman buildings and ruins are filled with southern  light. Wyck was able to reproduce the southern atmosphere excellently with black chalk and washed colours.

He created many drawings and so his drawings can be seen in many public collections.

About his technique and motifs compare the catalogue: Niederländische Zeichnungen des 16. bis 18. Jahrhunderts. Edited by Lisa Oehler. Kassel, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, 1979.
