Franz Stassen
1869 Hanau – Berlin 1949

Triptych: Nude woman with raised arms towards the sun (left), Jesus Christ and Saint Mary Magdalene (centre), Cupid and Psyche (right).

Pen-and-ink drawing in black, on strong cream drawing paper. 27,3:41,7 cm. On the central image inscribed by someone else with brown ink „M.K.“

„Cupid and Psyche“ requotes the same-named famous painting by Adolphe William Bouguereau (1825-1905), made in 1889. The nude woman probably follows Max Klinger's (1857-1920) etching „Die Schönheit (Aphrodite)“, item 31 from the series „Brahmsphantasie“, made in 1894, so we can suggest that our drawing was made in 1894.
