Resurrection of the widow's son (Old Testament, Book of the Kings I, Chapter 17, Verse 21ff).

Pen-and-ink drawing in brown, over pencil, on wove paper (papier vélin), monogram and date in the picture "JSC.(ligatured) d. 3. Dec. 1825.", inscribed at lower margin "Das Buch von den Königen Cap. 17. V. 21.". 21,3:25,9 cm.

At lower right paper a little bit rubbed, some faint stains, only to be seen from the back side.

Provenance: Collection A. O. Meyer, Hamburg, Lugt 1994; auction C. G. Boerner, Leipzig, 16.-18.03.1914; from the estate of the art historian Dr. Hella Robels, Cologne.

Preparatory drawing for the illustration of page 115 of the "Bible in Pictures", published between 1852 and 1860 by G. Wigand, Leipzig. For the woodcuts of this Bible the artist made 240 drawings.
