Hylas and the Nymphs.

Pen-and-ink and brush drawing in brown, heightened with opaque white, over pencil, on brownish wove paper (papier vélin), on lower right signed „C. M. Metz Roma 1813“, verso numbered with brown ink „No 3“ second number crossed out. 41,3:54,2 cm.

Weak light-toned edge at margins, a few tiny, neatly restored faults, smoothed fold at lower left corner, recto nearly unvisible.

Provenance: Lucien Goldschmidt, New York.

Both drawings probably belonged to a series, indicated by the numbers on the back side.
