1692 Lucca – Florence 1768

Cupid and Psyche.

Black chalk drawing on cream wove paper (papier vélin). 58,5:42,1 cm.

The drawing depicts the famous marble statue Cupid and Psyche of the The Capitoline Museums, Rome (Inv. No 408), which is the copy of an early Greek statue, from the late 2nd or early 1st century BC, made by a Roman sculptor. This stutue was found on the Aventine Hill in Rome 1749.

Unlike the original statue, Campiglia covers Amor's penis in his drawing with a leaf.
