Rock arch with a mountain torrent.

Pen-and-ink drawing in black-brown and brown, grey and brown wash, on handmade paper with fragments of a watermark: little crown over ?, at upper right inscribed and dated „Roma 1632“ and with a little unreadable note. 22,8:19,4 cm.

Neatly restored hole in the sky, paper a little bit stained, left and upper margin trimmed over the edgeline, which can be seen at lower and right margin, some traces of use at lower left.

Provenance: Collection W.G. Becker (1753-1813), Dresden, Lugt 324.

Cologne, Wallraf-Richartz Museum, 1992, No 120.1 and 120.2, with Fig.; Auction at Christie’s Amsterdam, from Nov. 24, 1992, No 209 with Fig.; Auction at Sotheby’s Amsterdam, From Nov 15, 1995, No 177 with Fig.

The landscape, drawn with a broad pen and washed in three colours, is seen from a higher point of view, a characteristic of Verhaecht's painting style.
