1628 – Amsterdam – after 1686

Southern river landscape with castles and a bridge with a tower.

Pen-and-ink drawing in red-brown, grey wash, edged with a brown pen-and-ink line, on handmade paper with fragments of a watermark: Characters FDC, verso formerly inscribed "Stefano De La Bella". 12:17,8 cm.

A little bit stained, verso remains of old glue at upper margin.

Compare literature: M.C.Plomp, The Dutch Drawings in the eyler Museum. Vol. II: Artists born between 1575 and 1630. Haarlem / Ghent / Doornspijk, 1997, No 183-1889.

Hackaert probably was in Italy between July 26 and August 24, 1654 or between July 26, 1654 and May 28, 1655. In addition views of Martigny and from areas nearby of Lausanne can be found in old catalogues.
